Rod Leonard originated the company in April 1987 as Leonard Construction, specializing in home improvement and roofing. In November 1993, Terry Brummel, of Brummel's Home Furnishings and Appliances, contacted Rod to do appliance installations for their furniture and appliance store. The agreement was made for Leonard Construction to assist Brummel's for the winter doing disconnects and reconnects of appliances. Those winter months in 1993 were much busier than expected and it seemed to be a good opportunity to build a new business.

A new company, Installers Extraordinaire Inc., was incorporated in 1996 by Rod Leonard and partner Tom Beckwith. The name came from the desire of Rod and Tom to promise extraordinary work and remind the customer of their services. At that time, they mainly did installations and Rod ran the office while assisting Tom with service work. The business continued to grow over the next several years and they added additional employees, both in the office and and as service personnel. Unfortunately, Tom passed away suddenly in May 2001. However, because of the past success, the business was able to move forward and continue.

In February 2004, Terry Brummel offered to sell their appliance service division to Rod Leonard. By August 2004 when the purchase was complete, more employees had been hired to assist in making the changes to add Brummel's Appliance Service to Installers Extraordianaire. Because Brummel's was a locally recognized name and had such a loyal following, it was decided to maintain and emphasize the Brummel name.

Over the past few years, the customer base has been growing and more employees have been added to meet the service requests. In January 2007, we relocated to a facility on Clyde Park. This location allowed us to have a showroom for parts and an in-house repair center, along with our offices.

In February 2010, we relocated to a new facility on 54th Avenue in Wyoming, Michigan. This latest facility provides us with more office space and a showroom, as well as a convenient location for in-house repair and appliance parts inventory.
